  1. smashing pics ... now imagine you are a Pomarine skua going down the Firth of Forth in Autmn, or up the Solway in Spring. Can you see water on the other side of the UK?

    I think this sort of analysis might help understanding some migration shortcuts.

  2. Interesting questions... If Google Earth is accurate, you have to be about 2800m up to see the North Sea from Gretna. That's on a clear day.

    Who knows how high skuas fly on migration?
