6.47am

Juvenile Marsh Tit

Dragged myself out of bed to get to Paxton for ringing at 4.50am... It was a lovely morning with a few nice things, including the first Nightingale I've ringed, juvenile Marsh Tit, Treecreeper, Song Thrush, Willow Warbler and Garden Warbler, loads of Robins, a couple of Reed Warblers and a Blackcap control (a bird ringed somewhere else).

I had to go to bed when I got home though.

Feathery things

I've been doing a bit of ringing lately...

Barn Swallow
Female Swallow we caught in a mist-net at Beeston, right next to the bird feeders! Don't think she was after sunflower hearts, somehow...

Chaffinch juvenile
and juvenile Chaffinch, both from Beeston. You can see the primaries are still growing out of their 'pins' (sheaths)

Starling

Starling tail
She was growing new tail feathers. For Starlings, it's autumn already

Cetti's Warbler

Look me in the eye

Blackbird

As Imperfect and Tense said, the last thing many a juicy worm sees.

Went ringing this morning. Only caught four birds (enough to go round the three ringers, with one spare), but even a humble Blackbird's pretty good really, isn't it...?

Where've you been?

Blackcap control
This Blackcap already had a ring put on by somebody, somewhere else. But where and when?
