Bedford Purlieus NNR

Big, fierce-looking wood ants were much in evidence

Wood Anemone, Anemone nemorosa


Wild Primroses, Primula vulgaris, were everywhere

Pussy Willow, Salix discolor

  2. Great photos, as usual. I was walking around a nature reserve recently and came upon some of those ants creating a new nest - there were literally millions of them all scurrying over each other, it was quite amazing; all in the cause of one queen ant. I might post a photo of that nest sometime - it makes me shiver thinking about it :)
